In the modern age, image is vital. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of weight loss methods in existence but, for some people, surgery remains the only real option. Through the process of liposuction, fatty tissue is physically removed from a particular area of the body. This can be useful in patients whose weight remains stable but who are blighted with areas of fat which do not disappear in spite of exercise or changes to their diet. The procedure is straightforward and completely safe, as we’ll show.

The surgical procedure of liposuction, as with most surgical procedures, begins with a form of anesthetic. Depending on the type of liposuction and the area of the body it’s being performed on, you will either undergo a local anesthetic – a numbing of the area being operated on – or a general anesthetic whereby you will be rendered unconscious while the procedure is carried out. Both types of anesthetic are completely pain free and you won’t have anything other than a slight numbness following the operation.

After the anesthetic has taken effect, the surgeon may inject some fluids – again, depending on the type of operation and the area of the body being operated on. Following this, he will create small incisions around the area from which the fat deposits will be removed. The incisions tend to range in size from a quarter of an inch up to a third of an inch. This is all that is required to perform the procedure, ensuring you’re left without unsightly scars or marks.

Next comes the fat removal. The surgeon will insert a small vacuum tube (known as a cannula) into the incision and will ensure it reaches the deep fat layer which is being removed. He will break up the fat cells by manipulating the vacuum tube and will remove them using suction through the vacuum tube or an additional syringe. Naturally, blood and other matter will be extracted along with the fat cells so you will be given additional bodily fluids via an intravenous drip while this takes place.

Following the removal of the fatty cells, most surgeons will use stitches to close the incisions. Don’t be alarmed if they don’t, though. Some doctors prefer to leave the incisions open as the fluid can drain more easily and bruising and swelling will be reduced. You won’t have any problems as the incisions are tiny. The whole process is painless and very quick and easy and you’re very unlikely to experience any issues. Enjoy your new body!

The surgery doesn’t discriminate a patient’s age, but younger ones have a substantial better result because of their skin elasticity. After the fats have been sucked out, the skin may hang loose if it’s not firm and tight. That is why an ideal patient for liposuction is a non-smoker, healthy, and has firm and good skin elasticity.

Be sensible with your expectation. Understand that lipo doesn’t improve cellulite. What it does is it removes the fat deposits underneath the cellulite.

Convalescence period can be a real pain also. Swells and bruises usually appear instantly after the operation. The bruising can last for a few weeks, while the swelling may continue for months. It is advised that you shun any strenuous work or vigorous activity, including sports, while you recover for around six months.

The full effect won’t be evident until after a long period. It usually takes around 3 months before the result can be seen. Keep in mind that post-operation checkups with your surgeon is mandatory.

Liposuction is not a weight loss surgery but a contouring process. Always follow healthy eating habits before and after the process to achieve maximum outcome.
